Words, time, and the continuity of everyday life.
Traditional calligraphy and contemporary expression come together in the work of Hong Kong calligraphy artist @chanoiying. Rooted in the five traditional Chinese calligraphy scripts and shaped by her ongoing study of modern Japanese calligraphy, she works with brushstrokes, lines, and ink to explore new ways of seeing and experiencing the written word.
For this collaboration with OLIVMEW, she drew from the idea of A1 as something made to remain part of everyday life over time. She chose the character 「恒」, meaning constancy and continuity, as the starting point for the work. Its left component, 「心」 (heart), reflects focus and the quiet accumulation of time, while 「亘」 conveys continuity and permanence. Through her contemporary approach to calligraphy, she extends these ideas into her own visual language.
